PACE TAKES INTO ACCOUNT REPORT ON ARMENIAN CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT
- The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) took into account on January 23 the annual report by its Bureau that also included the November 27, 2005 constitutional referendum process in Armenia, Noyan Tapan reported, citing Radio Liberty.

British parliamentarian Nigel Evans, who had monitored the referendum, said that while Armenia is not on the last positions in the world with respect to democracy, it still has a lot to do.
Armen Rustamian, the head of the Armenian delegation to the PACE, speaking during the discussions, blamed the Armenian opposition parities for withdrawing their members from the election commissions, which resulted in the failure of monitoring the entire process.
“Armenia is on the way of building democracy and should hold democratic elections in 2007 and 2008 because free and fair elections have no alternative,” Rustamian said.
