UN MAY DEPLOY PEACEKEEPERS IN CONFLICT ZONE, ARMENIAN DIPLOMAT SAYS
UN may deploy peacekeepers in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone, Armenia’s envoy to the UN was quoted by the Radio Liberty as saying.
Armen Martirosyan said the issue may be discussed when the parties to the conflict reach an agreement. “Armenia’s position is flexible,” Martirosyan noted. “We do not rule out a possibility of UN’s activities in this issue.”
Last year, Azerbaijan twice attempted to include the Karabakh issue in the General Assembly’s agenda. Both attempts were failed but in the second case, the proposal was backed by the United States and Great Britain. But this does not mean, Martirosyan said, that those countries would support the Azerbaijani claims.
