MEETING MARKING ARF’S 115TH ANNIVERSARY HELD IN YEREVAN
- The series of events marking the 115th anniversary of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) were concluded by a meeting on Thursday held at the National Opera and Ballet Theater in Yerevan. The event was attended by the Armenian intelligentsia and politicians.
In his opening remarks, ARF Supreme Body of Armenia representative Armen Rustamian pointed out the role of the ARF in the Armenian politics and Diaspora, where, he said, the party’s main role is the preservation of the Armenian identity in the Armenian communities and pursuing of the Armenian Cause.
He was followed by ARF Bureau representative Hrant Margarian, who said that the day is a good occasion to report on what the ARF has accomplished and what the party’s positions are to dismiss the uncertainty.
“The ARF is a party that is represented in 30 countries of the world and it is operating in all the layers of the Armenian people and has assumed various responsibilities,” Margarian said. “We are the own organization of the Armenian people, the Armenian people are the source of our strength. All the problems of the Armenian people are ours too. Our arsenal is rich because it takes strength form the entire Armenian people.”
He then spoke of the party’s activities in Armenia, and again explained the ARF’s decision to participate in the ruling coalition. “We joined the government because we clearly realized that the country’s stability would be guaranteed if there is justice, and that the country’s progress could be real and effective if it does not proceed in a field mined with corruption, and when the atmosphere is not filled with the impunity of the privileged. Maybe, we have not accomplished much but we have done more than the fruitless and profanity-filled populism. We have not and cannot conform to those negative phenomena and we will continue the struggle,” Margarian added.
In conclusion, he appealed to his party comrades, “We, the ARF members, do not go are not the followers of a person or elites; we are members of an established and organized party. Our struggle was easy when the Artsakh liberation war was going on and when we were not a part to the government and our responsibility was limited. Today, our struggle is more difficult, and the role and behavior of each of us is critical for both our organization and the society.
By our moral behavior and that of our party members who hold state and party offices we can guarantee that our party will proceed straightforwardly to its goals.”
