ARMENIA AND AZERBAIJAN NOT FAR FROM REACHING PEACEFUL SETTLEMENT FOR KARABAKH CONFLICT- SABINE FRAISER
Armenia and Azerbaijan are not far from reaching peaceful settlement for the Karabakh conflict but the parties should make several crucial steps toward it, Sabine Fraiser, the Caucasus Regional Director of the International Crisis Group (ICG) was quoted as saying by the Azerbaijani news agency Trend.
She said it would be clear in 2006 whether the parties would be able to reach a settlement, otherwise the last chance for the settlement would be missed. She also indicated that during their recent visit to the region, the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs worked thoroughly to prepare a meeting of the Armenian and Azeri presidents in January 2006. She also mentioned that Armenia has given up its demand that Karabakh’s status be determined before the occupied territories are freed.
