CATHOLICOS ARAM I TO PARTICIPATE IN CELEBRATION OF 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF JWG BETWEEN ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH AND THE WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES
Cilicia Catholicos Aram I will participate on November 17 in Geneva in a public event to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Joint Working Group (JWG) between the Roman Catholic Church and the World Council of Churches (WCC).
Formed in 1965, following the Second Vatican Council, the JWG is a consultative body charged with initiating, evaluating and sustaining the many forms of collaboration between its two parent bodies.
In his address, Aram I will affirm that collaboration between the Roman Catholic Church and the World Council in the face of new challenges needs to move from reflection to reception in local churches.
Cardinal Walter Kasper, president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity (PCPCU) will spell out his vision of the new challenges that the Council and the Roman Catholic Church should address together if they want to be more effective.
