ARF BUREAU REPRESENTATIVE PARTICIPATES IN EVENTS MARKING ARF’S 115TH ANNIVERSARY
- Events marking the 115th anniversary of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) were held in the Navasardian Hall in London on November 11 and 12.
Speaking at the official ceremony on November 11, ARF Bureau representative Hrant Margarian noted there are five key issue: Independent Republic of Armenia; Artsakh; Javakhk; Hay Dat activities; and Diaspora.
Margarian said that since 1999, the ARF stands by the Armenia authorities because the new leadership of the country adopted new policies such as making the Armenian Genocide issue a part of foreign policies, change in the defeatist policy in the Karabakh issue and others.
“Our position in the domestic policy of Armenia is that we should create an environment for dialogue and attempt to give the opposition a role in the politics,” Margarian said. “Secondly, we are fighting against injustice; we are determined in that fight but also realistic. In case we find out our influence is not enough we will leave the coalition.”
On Artsakh issue, Margarian mentioned that the ARF is the only pan-Armenian political party functioning in Artsakh. “We have two roles in Artsakh: we have to be in opposition to ensure that everything does not turn gray there. Besides, we should keep the government awake and direct its activities.”
On Javakhk, Margarian said, “ We have never pushed for Javakhk’s independence from Georgia; we have always advocated for Javakhk autonomy within Georgia. Georgia’s stability is as important for Armenia as for Georgia.” However, Margarian added, we are convinced that the autonomy demand is fair, it is the only guarantee for Javakhk’s development.
On the Armenian Genocide, he said that today, there is a harmful conception to separate the recognition from reparation, and efforts are made to derail the process under the veil of Armenian-Turkish reconciliation.
Speaking about Diaspora issues, Margarian noted that two diasporas exist today: the classical diaspora and the one that has emerged in the former Soviet republics. While the situation with the classical diaspora raises not much concerns, the diaspora in the former Soviet republics is unorganized. It, however, carries great political, economic and human resources.
On November 12, an event marking the 115th anniversary of the ARF was held. Armenian Ambassador to UK Vahe Gabrielian, representatives of the Armenian community as well as prominent guests attended the event.
