ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION ON CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS HELD IN MOSCOW
A roundtable discussion on the Armenian constitutional amendments was held in Moscow on December 10.
The discussion titled “Armenian Constitutional Reform,” and organized by the Armenian Revolutionary Federation’s Moscow Hay Dat office, was attended by representatives of Moscow and Moscow region’s Armenian organizations, schools and media.
The goal of the discussion was to educate the Armenians about the proposed changes as well as unite the efforts of the Armenian organizations to ensure Armenian citizens’ turnout in the referendum. Yuri Navoyan, the director of the ARF Moscow Hay Dat office, opened the discussion and pointed to the political importance of the referendum. A vivid discussion followed and various opinions were expressed.
The participants pointed out the issue of double citizenship as a pivotal one since about 600,000 Armenian citizens reside permanently in Russia, and many of them have begun to renounce the Armenian citizenship; at least 50,000 people have done so in the past years. Twelve polling stations have been set up in Moscow and other regions of Moscow for the referendum.
