GENOCIDE MUSEUM-INSTITUTE GETS NEW EXCLUSIVE ITEMS
The Genocide Museum-Institute of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences received today exclusive items on the Armenian genocide from the Munich Foundation for Armenian Issues, founded in 1977.
Alice Marukhian, the director of the Foundation, who gave the items to the Genocide Museum Director Lavrenty Barseghian, told Yerkir that the idea of giving those items to Armenia belonged to Edward Hovhannisian, the former director and founder of the Foundation. “Now, after his death, I am fulfilling his will and giving the items to Lavrenty Barseghian.” Marukhian said.
The items include documents on the property of the Armenians of the Western Armenia, as well as 1,616 cards of the Genocide victims.
In a certificate granted to the Munich Foundation for Armenian Issues, the Genocide Museum noted that the Museum appreciated such step of the Foundation that enriched the Museum’s collection.
The fact has been described as a patriotic move in the Museum’s main book. The Foundation for Armenian Issues has also been awarded a medal commemorating the Armenian Genocide’s 90th anniversary.
An agreement to continue the cooperation between the two institutions in the future was also reached.
