
PAMUK AWARDED MEDICIS LITERATURE PRIZE
Famous Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk was awarded Medicis famous French literature prize, Panarmenian.net reported.
The French have awarded the Prize to Orhan Pamuk for his «Snow» novel, of which Kars is the scene. The hero of the novel is a Turkish writer, who has returned to the fatherland after a 12-year exile and who finds himself in the center of political events developing in the small town.
Meanwhile, Pamuk will appear before an Istanbul court in December on indictment of “damaging Turkish statehood authority.” Earlier, Pamuk had stated in an interview with a Swiss newspaper that “one million Armenians and 30 thousand Kurds were killed in Turkey at the beginning of past century.” Under Turkish laws Pamuk may face imprisonment from 6 months to 3 years.
