HRAPARAK: RUSSIAN STATE DUMA SPEAKER TO VISIT ARMENIA
- The paper says it has learned from sources that the speaker of Russia's State Duma, Sergey Narishkin, is visiting Armenia later this month.
Unlike Valentina Matviyenko [the chairperson of the Russian Federal Council], he will spend two days and two nights in the country on July 23-24, claims the paper.
Commenting on Matviyenko's visit, it says that the tour was conditioned not only by the current developments in which Armenia has been given a serious vectorial role, but also the necessity to maintain parity.
Noting that Narishkin was in Azerbaijan on July 7, the paper says that Russian emissaries will continue their tours to the South Caucasus in the near future. Citing its sources, the paper claims that several governors are due in the region soon, with President Vladimir Putin reportedly set to visit Armenia on September 7.
"He will come to Armenia 'to participate' in the Collective Security Treaty Organization's (CSTO) drills. Considering that Uzbekistan withdrew from the CSTO quite recently, Vladimir Putin can be said to have chosen the most appropriate moment to raise the organization's role," the paper comments.
