217 INTERROGATED OVER REPUBLIC SQUARE EXPLOSION
- Some 217 individuals have been interrogated following the explosion of balloons on Yerevan's Republic Square earlier this month, says Ashot Aharonyhan, a spokesperson of the Armenian Police.
Speaking to Tert.am, Aharonyan said that 196 individuals thought to have been affected in the incident have been given medical referrals.
The media had earlier said that the inquest has seen absolutely no progress 19 days after the explosion.
Asked whether members of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) have been interrogated too, Aharonyan answered: "Interrogations are not conducted based on party affiliation."
He said further that the police have not detained any one so far.
Aharonyan noted that several expert examinations have been assigned, adding that the results are not available for now. The gas-filled balloons that went off at the ruling Republican Party's final pre-election concert on May 4 left several people injured. Some 144 were hospitalized immediately. Some of those with serious burns have already undergone free plastic surgeries.
