AZERBAIJAN CAN NO LONGER THREATEN WAR - ANALYST
- The key outcome of the Medvedev-Aliyev-Kocharyan trilateral meeting in Sochi was the success in forcing Azerbaijan into maintaining the current negotiation format over Nagorno-Karabakh, a political analyst has said. ''The real context refers to the problem of war. That's to say, the threat of war will no longer serve as a resource for Azerbaijan,'' Sergey Minasyan, the deputy director of the Caucasus Institute, told reporters on Tuesday. He noted that though the meeting marked the final stage of the negotiation cycle initiated by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, the country will not cease to be an active player in the process in future. ''The format will be maintained in some way,'' he said. Asked whether continuing the meetings makes sense given that they are always followed by the borderline incidents, he said: "Azerbaijan won't permanently cease the military operations as that is its only lever to disagree to the status quo."
