ARMENIAN EXPERT IN MONUMENTS VS YOUNG ARCHITECTS
- The Armenian Association of Young Architects issued a statement harshly criticizing Samvel Karapetyan, an Armenia-based expert in monuments. In his works, he considers the "truly Armenian churches and monasteries located in Artsakh" (Nagorno-Karabakh) to be other peoples' heritage. The authors of the statement are ready to prove the Armenian origin of any church in Artsakh. Talking to Tert.am, Mr. Karapetyan said the statement is an instance of "sheer incompetence." "It must be tombs with Arabic and Turkic inscriptions on, rather than churches. The tombs were constructed by Armenians," Karapetyan said. "I have never said anything like this about churches. It must be misunderstanding," the expert added. "I was the first to state that the tombs had been constructed by Armenian architects. No Armenian had mentioned that before. Our indifference allowed Azeris to claim it was their cultural heritage," Karapetyan said.
