ROBBIE KEANE SINGS KARAOKE BEFORE MATCH WITH ARMENIA (VIDEO)
- Robbie Keane has been pictured singing in a Dublin bar 48 hours before the decisive Euro 2012 qualifier with Armenia, The Telegraph reported. Keane, who is now facing a battle to overcome his adductor muscle injury in time for next month play-offs should Ireland claim a point against the Armenians, had officially been rated as doubtful for the Aviva Stadium fixture after being injured during Friday's 2-0 victory in Andorra. Yet despite the former Tottenham forward being released from Trapattoni's squad on Sunday morning after a scan highlighted the full extent of his injury, enabling him to visit a bar close to the team's Malahide hotel base with wife Claudine on Sunday evening without the risk of censure, public statements by Marco Tardelli, Trapattoni's assistant, had suggested that Keane remained in contention to face the in-form Armenians. But with Trapattoni confirming that West Bromwich forward Simon Cox will partner the Wolves striker Kevin Doyle tonight, the Italian, who began his press conference on Monday by asking suspiciously whether any Armenian journalists were in the room, confessed that Keane's karaoke session had given the game away. "I am a liar," Trapattoni joked. "I did not want Armenia to know about Robbie! "He had a scan on Sunday and there was a lot of blood (highlighted.) We hope that, in three or four weeks, he could fit for the play-off games if we qualify." Keane, who sang Mustang Sally and the Garth Brooks song, Tomorrow Never Comes during his impromptu spell on stage, is set to fly back to the United States following Tuesday's game in order to undergo further treatment with current club, LA Galaxy. His absence against Armenia, who can qualify for the play-offs if they claim a fourth successive Group B victory tonight, is a major blow for Ireland, who require a point to be certain a play-off spot. But Trapattoni admits that Keane is by no means certain to be fit for a two-legged play-off next month if the Irish progress to that stage. "It is not a light injury," Trapattoni said. "But if he pays attention and looks after himself, and maybe plays with an injection, then we will see how he is (for the play-offs). "Robbie is a loss, but we have other players. Portugal have Cristiano Ronaldo to score the goals, but we have a group and we have goals from many players, not just Robbie." A place in the play-offs would trigger memories of Ireland's controversial at the same stage of World Cup qualification against France two years ago, when a Thierry Henry hand-ball in Paris directly led to the decisive goal for the French. Goalkeeper Shay Given, captain in Keane's absence tonight, insists Ireland's experience of qualification successes and near misses since a play-off victory against Iran in 2001 will prove crucial against Armenia. He said: "We have been there done it and got the T-shirt in terms of qualifying, but each game brings own set of problems. "Armenia may come and attack because only a win is good enough for them, but our experience can help us get over the line."

Today in Armenian history- 0 Sahmi was the third month in the old Armenian calendar (October 10 to November 8). One opinion links the word "Sahmi" with the verb "to define", because of preparations imposed by winter. Academician Malkhasian, however, links it to "seed".
