NEW ARMENIAN PM NAMED
- Tigran Sarkisian, the longtime chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA), was appointed as the country’s new prime minister on Wednesday. President Serzh Sarkisian (no relation to Tigran) signed a relevant decree immediately after his inauguration and the formal resignation of the current Armenian government which he has headed since April last year. Its members will continue to perform their duties until the formation of a new cabinet. The decree became a mere formality after the CBA chief’s candidacy was unanimously backed by the leadership of the governing Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) on Tuesday. Tigran Sarkisian’s appointment was also approved the next day by the leaders of two other parties that will be represented in the new coalition government to be formed in the coming weeks. Armen Rustamian of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) hailed Tigran Sarkisian as a “new figure” capable of introducing “changes that may be painful and may not be liked by everyone.” “In that sense, the choice of new prime minister bodes well for a new beginning,” he told RFE/RL. Artur Baghdasarian, the leader of the Orinats Yerkir Party, said the CBA candidate was “one of the most acceptable candidates” for the job. “I think one of Tigran Sarkisian’s positive traits is his commitment to reforms,” he said. Baghdasarian strongly criticized the CBA and its leadership during the recent presidential election campaign. In particular, he accused the bank of artificially boosting the value of the national currency, the dram, with the aim of enriching government-connected importers of fuel and basic foodstuffs. Tigran Sarkisian refused to comment on the likely composition of his cabinet as he attended the presidential inauguration. (Photolur photo)

I want to applaud the notion made by SS to have TS be prime minister. First it shows that SS somewhat cares about the unstable future of the Armenian economy, in hiring an economist to be PM. Second SS saved himself the embarassment of nominated 'the mouse' as the next pm. This move by SS is a step forward. SS must now realize that the majority of the people in Armenia want change (even the ones that voted for Serge). He can't continue the politics of his predecessor. SS has inherited a sectarian divided nation and it is up to him to heal the wounds of our country. I did't support Serge Sarkisian as a candidate for presidency, but now since he is OUR PRESIDENT, I wish him only the best in his effort to try to change Armenia

YOU DO COMUNICATE FACTUALLY AND GENERALLY HAVE AN OPEN MINDEDNESS,YOU ALSO HAVE VERY STRONG POINTS.IT INDICATES TO ME THAT IF NECESSARY YOU COULD EVALUATE THINGS DIFFERENTLY AS CHANGES ARE NEEDED.
I PERSONALLY DO'NT SEE ARMENIA'S FOREIGNE POLICY GOING TROUGH A DRAMATIC CHANGE.BECAUSE OF TWO REASONS #1 AZERBAIJAN'S INTENTIONS ARE NOT FRIENDLY #2 TURKEY DOES'NT REALISE THAT HER DEMANDS ARE NOT ACEPTABLE AT ALL TO ARMENIA AND ARMENIANS ALL OVER THE WORLD THOSE DEMANDS ARE. THE EXCEPTION OF COURSE IS THE LTB CROWDE AND IT PROVED INEFFICIENT.AS FOR THE INTERNAL POLICY A CHNAGE IS NEEDED TO GET OVER WITH THE INTERNAL DIVISIONS BECAUSE OF THE LATEST EVENTS. HOWEVER I DO'NT SEE LTB BE TO SHARE POWER.IT'S IMPOSSIBLE ONLY BECAUSE HE WENT TOO FAR IN DESTROYING HIS OWN CHANCES. ECONOMICALLY YES INDEED WE ALWAYS COULD DO BETTER AND WE NEED REAL ECONOMIST IF YOU HAPPEN TO KNOW ABOUT THIS NEW PRIME MINISTER AND HIS RECORDS GOOD FOR ALL OF US.
I ALSO BELIEVE THAT SS'ES MAIN CHALENGE IS HOW TO FIGHT CORRUPTION. AS I ONCE MENTIONED IT'S DANGEROUS IT NEEDS VERRY STRONG PLANNING IN ORDER TO AVOID RISKING HIS OWN LIFE... BUT IT'S SOMETHING MUST BE DONE !

Mihran,
I agree. LTP had a chance to join the coalition and instead he said no, causing the deaths of min 8 people, for what??? what did he accomplish? Was there a overthrow? If LTP had the backing of atleast 700K people (that took to the streets) then I would understand his behavior. And now he says ok to talks? I'm just sad that 8 lived could have been avioded if LTP just said "ok lets talk" before march 1
