ARMENTEL’S CURRENT TARIFFS TO REMAIN UNCHANGED UNTIL MARCH

A state regulatory body on Friday decided to leave unchanged the current tariffs for all services provided by ArmenTel until next spring. Presenting the decision of the Public Services Regulatory Commission, Head of the Commission’s Tariff Department Ashot Arshakian said the current tariffs will be valid until March 1, 2007 as transitional tariffs. According to one of the points of the decision, until then ArmenTel can apply to the Commission to set new tariffs. ArmenTel’s new Chief Executive Officer Oleg Bliznyuk agreed with the Commission’s decision, saying that they need time to get familiarized with the market and come up with proposals after the completion of the transitional period. Russian mobile operator Vimpel-Communications purchased a 90 percent stake in ArmenTel from Greece’s Hellenic Telecommunications Organization SA for 341.9 million euros ($436.3 million) plus about 40 million euros (51 million) in debt.
