VLADIMIR KAZIMIROV SAYS: “I HAVE USED STEPANAKERT IN MY SPEECH”

The former representative of Russian President to Nagorno Karabakh, Minsk Group Russian former co-chair Vladimir Kazimirov clears up the situation over the usage of the name of the Nagorno Karabakh capital. Note that Azeri 1news.az web site reports that during a press conference in Stepanakert, Kazimirov used Khanqendi instead of Stepanakert. To Panorama.am request, Mr. Kazimirov answered in a letter: Everybody being aware of the Karabakh conflict knows that ideological war continues and has not left out the topography. Hence, those who dont want to provoke this or that side try not to use those names created during the conflict by the parties, using those names which were given before the conflict. It means that I use Stepanakert, Shusha, Lachin names and not others. I would not like to benefit this or that party but I use those names given before the conflict. In the beginning of the 90th it was said to use the two names Stepanakert/Khanqendi, but I think that the whims of the parties should not be dictated. Later, when definite agreements will be made, the usage of the names will also be adapted to the party which will control the land.
