FOREIGN MINISTER OF AZERBAIJAN INVITED TO UNITED STATES
The Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov is invited to the United States, the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan Public Relations Department Head Terry Davidson says. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will meet with Mammadyarov, Davidson says. The date of the visit has not been specified. The meeting between the U.S. Secretary of State and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister is an important event, he said.

- 1804 Russian forces, led by General Tshitshianov, start their first assault on Yerevan. It lasts till September.
- 1837 Opening of the Yerevan Consistory.
- 1843 The Mkhitarist Congregation publishes the "Bazmavep" monthly in Venice.
- 1868 The Armenian Church in Echmiadsin starts publishing (to 1918) the Holy See's official monthly: "Ararat".
- 1872 Death of Matatyan (Seyad), Eastern-Armenian writer and troubadour.
- 1891 The "Flag" newspaper (affiliated to the Dashnak party) starts publication.
- 1901 The Tsar publishes the law on land and agricultural reform in Transcaucasia.
- 1905 Civil unrest in Bitlis.
