STATE OF EMERGENCY NOT EXTENDED
Tomorrow on 21 March the legal regime of the state of emergency in Armenia will be over, said the president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan in a meeting with the journalists. He said that the situation in the country is being stabilized, and there is no need to extend the time limits of the state of emergency. I think that announcing the state of emergency allowed us to escape many other problems, notified the president of the country. The president said that he had made some conclusions and signified the following, First the democracy should be protected from demagogy. According to the president some legislative norms should be changed and amended, particularly he mentioned that according to our legislation the special service officials: army, police, are not sentenced for rejecting to conduct their duties, whereas in Germany they are sentenced till 5 years. The other conclusion of the president is that the police forces of Armenia need to be more practiced and improved. The recent incidents showed that what we have is old and we need new things to be more secured, he said. The president of the country mentioned that the rights of NGO-s should be limited to enter the political aspects; particularly he mentioned Vogu Porcutyun and Yerkrapah organizations which played active part in conducting violence and using weapons.
