RUBEN SAHAKYAN: “SUMGAYIT CASES CORRESPOND TO GENOCIDE CONVENTION”
What is happening today in our country totally demands to be serious towards Sumgayit question, said publicist Hrayr Ulubabyan in a press conference held today. He said that the antagonism with Turkey and Azerbaijan continues, and these countries raise Armenians aggressiveness question in the international bodies. In these 20 years no one from our politicians and authorities raised this question in international courts. What happened in Sumgayit totally corresponds to Genocide convention, he said. Ulubyan added that if Turkey was refused to enter the European Union because of not recognizing Armenian Genocide, then Azerbaijan can also be refused only because of Sumgayit cases. The publicist asked a few deputies Raffi Hovhannisyan, Larisa Alaverdyan and Viktor Dallakyan to raise the Sumgayit question as an example of genocide and to discuss them in international courts. According to Ulubabyan it is announced that there was only 26-27 murders, nut on 26-29 February 1988 more than 100 Armenians were killed. According to Ruben Sahakyan, the president of Advocates Palace, Sumgayit case totally corresponds to the Genocide convention. It was an organized activity held in Sumgayit. It was organized by Gorbachov and was agreed with Azeri authorities, said Sahakyan.
