ON THRESHOLD OF ELECTIONS HOLY COUNCIL CALLED APPEAL FOR PEACE
Yesterday the Supreme Holy Council held a meeting headed by the Supreme Patriarch of all Armenians Garegin II. According to the Mother Cathedral the meeting was directed to the forthcoming presidential elections. The Supreme Patriaech maintained that the presidential elections scheduled for 19 February, are important events for our country and for the people. 17 years ago, our nation chose the way of independence. Regaining the independence of Armenian nation and country contributed to create fair and socially peaceful country. Our nation hopes that the new president will work to strengthen the peace and independence of ours, said Garegin II.

Today in Armenian history- 1875 Birth in Idgir (Western Armenia) of ophthalmologist-surgeon Hayk Kanayan.
- 1916 During the First World War, Russian forces occupy Gareen (Erzroom) in north-eastern Turkey.
- 1921 Victory of the rebellion against the Menshevik Georgian Government in the so-called "Loree Neutral Zone". The Armenian flag is raised in all 41 villages of the zone.
- 1927 The People's Communist Council of the Republic approves a new regulation establishing the following Faculties at Yerevan State University: Socio-Economics, Education, Agriculture, Medicine and Technology.
- 1932 Creation of the Local Branch of the All-Union "Old Bolsheviks' Association".
