CONSTITUTIONAL COURT EXAMINES LEVON TER-PETROSYAN’S APPEAL
- Today the Constitutional Court (CC) started Levon Ter-Petrosyans appeal of 2008 presidential elections. It is said in his application to claim the problems standing him unconquerable which irrespective of Levon Ter-Petrosyan make it impossible his further participation in the electoral activities authorized by the RA legislation. It is particularly mentioned in the application that the campaign carried out against Levon Ter-Petrosyan by the Public TV Haylur program made it difficult to hold equal pre election campaign with other candidates. Ruben Torosyan one of the applicants representatives said that on 8 February Haylur presented the announcement of the Central Electoral Committee that if Levon Ter-Petrosyan wanted to leave the election campaign. R. Torosyan asked the CC to broadcast by Haylur program that the CEC announcement was illegal one and to call Alexan Harutyunayn, the president of the Public TV and Garegin Azaryan, the president of the CEC to witness. The president of the constitutional court refused the request and said that if some bodies falsify the reality it is not the CC to deal with those items. R. Torosyan presented some facts which proved that the Public TV carried out anticampaign activities towards Levon Ter-Petrosyan since 20 January. He said that those abuses were broadcast either by A. Geghamyan, A. Harutyunyan, and V. Hovhannisyan or the reporter. He said that they presented their 30 appeals to courts but they all were rejected under being legal comments. Another representative of the applicants, Artak Zeynalyan said that they sent application to the TV and Radio National Committee asking to take measures to stop the anticampaign activities being carried out against their candidate. But they did not get any answer from the committee. Zeynalyan said that they even appealed to the administrative court. Their application was rejected because of lack of the necessary documents.
