ARMENIAN SOLO SINGERS TAKE PART IN PAVEL LISITSYAN INTERNATIONAL CONTEST OF BARITONES
Solo singers Gevorg Hakobyan and David Babyants take part in Pavel Lisitsyan international contest of baritones. Hakobyan and Babayants are singers of Opera and Ballet Academic Theater after Alexander Spendiaryan. ''Armenian solo singers are participating in the contest with the financial support of ministry of culture,'' Gayane Durgaryan, public relations department head of the ministry of culture, told Panorama.am. The opening ceremony of the first international contest of baritones after Pavel Lisityan took place on February 3. Thirty seven singers from 12 countries will take part in the first round as a result of a lot. The participants from Russia, Byelorussia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Armenia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and other countries will compete for $10,000 Gran Pree Award and the right to take part in a performance of Big Theater in 2008-09.

Today in Armenian history- 1540 Birth of Simeon Aparanetsi (historian). He died in 1614.
- 1877 Birth of Alexander Melikyan in Hadrut (Artsakh). This scientist, mathematician, and engineer designed and constructed Yerevan's water-mains system.
- 1879 Birth in Baku of Hovhannes Adamyan, engineer and inventor of colored television and visual telecommunications. He was born in a family of petroleum producers. In June 1970, the inventor's remains were transferred to the Komitas Municipality (Yerevan) Pantheon. He died in 1932 in Leningrad (Russia).
- 1960 Anastas Mikoyan, Deputy President of the USSR's Council of Ministers opened the Soviet Union's Exhibition in Havana (Cuba).
