RE-FUNDING INTEREST RATE GOES UP
The Armenian Central Bank (CB) raised CB refunding interest rate by 0.25 fixing it at 6.00% in its February 4, 2008 session, CB press services inform. According to the source, 2.4% inflation was reported in January, 2008 as against December, 2007. As a result, 12-month inflation totaled 6.6% keeping to the end of last year indicator. CB board has a unanimous opinion that high inflation environment in the world market continues and does not create grounds for the easing of inflation pressures in the internal economy. Concurrently, the internal development continues to be conditioned by high rates of private consumption with influence from the expanding tax and budget policy of 2008. CB board considers that the mentioned inflation pressure will continue in the course of the whole year and the inflation anticipations and the inflation may be possible to keep to the target level only by gradual monetary restrictions.
