ARMENIAN APOSTOLIC CHURCH TO START FAST FEBRUARY 4
This year Great Fast will start on February 4. It will last 48 days, until Easter, that will be celebrated on March 23, Priest Hakob Khachatryan of St. Sargis Church told Panorama.am. In his words, during the fast exclusively vegetarian food is used. Not only restrictions are put on food but on addictions, lie, cursing and other faults. Refusing from food without putting down faults is useless. As St. Grigor Tatevasi says the devil is always in fast. He does not eat anything but is not tired of committing guilt, the priest says. Priest Hakob symbolizes the 40 days of the fast with forty days of prayer of Jesus Christ in the desert. After his baptism Jesus Christ has been ''tempted'' by the Satan for forty days. He did not eat and did not drink during those days,'' the priest said. There is a one week fast following the great fast that is why the forty day fast lasts 48 days.

Today in Armenian history- 1786 Birth in Moscow of Hovhannes Nazaryan, a public and cultural figure of the 19th century. He was a member of the court of the Russian Empire, and a State Adviser. (Died 1858, in St Petersburg).
