ARMENIAN PARTY AGAIN RAISES PROBLEM OF DESTRUCTION OF ARMENIAN CROSS-STONES
During January 20-26 Council of European parliamentary assembly session in Strasbourg, PACE Culture, Science and Education Commission and Cultural Heritage Sumcommittee discussed the visit of the commission to Nakhijevan and areas in the vicinity aimed to get introduced with the state of preservation of the cultural monuments in the area. Raffi Hovanisyan, representing Armenia in the mentioned committee, underscored the importance of keeping the business trip of Edward OHara to Nakhijevan and areas in the vicinity in the agenda. OHara is the official rapporteur of the commission. With this aim he participated in a meeting initiated by the rapporteur and to which Azerbaijani delegation spearheaded by Samad Seidov participated. Raffi Hovanisyan asked Yan Kubish, chairman of CoE Committee of Ministers, to clarify the committees disposition on that Azerbaijan does not grant entry permission of PACE Culture, Science and Education Commission official rapporteur who is entitled to conduct an observation mission in the Armenian medieval cemetery of Jugha in Nakhijevan. He also asked to clarify the fact that thousands of cross stones were destroyed in December, 2006 by the Azerbaijani army.

Today in Armenian history- 410 Birth of Movses Khorenatsi (historian).
- 1799 Birth of Edward Hyoormoozyan of the Mkhitarist Congregation (Armenian Roman Catholic Order) in Constantinople. He died in 1876 in Rome.
- 1901 Birth of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of Armenia's Communist Party, Aghassee Khanjyan. He was one of the many murdered by Lavrentee Beria in July, 1936 in Tbilisi, where he was invited for consultations.
