TODAY DAY OF ARMENIAN ARMY
Today is the day Armenian armys organization. In the course of 16 day it has undergone many tests and difficulties. In the words of Seiran Ohanyan, head of the republican military force headquarters, our army is in the phase of reforms currently. He said a young army like the Armenian army, has reached to the level of organization in the course of 16 years when reforms are vital for further improvements. Being surrounded by Azerbaijan and Turkey, in 1988 it became clear that having a strong army is a necessary requirement for our statehood. During that time, teams of freedom fighters were formed. In 1991 those groups turned into military units and in September in Artsakh they were organized into an army. A priority issue for the newly established army was to establish respective value system. In 1998-99 are the years of progress for the organizations of a strong army. In 2001, the army with equipped with new technology and arms. Ohanyan recently announced that army management is on a high level, too. Many events will take place in the capital connected with the Day. Wreaths will be put on Yerablur cemetery. Later a memorial stone to General-Major M. Silikyan will be ceremonially opened. Followed are ceremonies of award giving at the ministry of defense. A festive concert will sum up the festivities dedicated to 16th anniversary of the Armenian army in Opera House. The festivities kicked off yesterday.
