INFLATION HIGHER THAN PRESENTED
''Fake weighing is the most widespread violation in shops. It is generally applied and has become a major factor of profit gaining and that makes a negative impact on ensuring fair economic competition in the country,'' Consumer Rights Protection Chairman Abgar Yeghoyan told a news conference today. He mentioned that in accordance with an Armenian law on measurements, scales must pass inspections at least once a year. However, according to the data 2007 of the Armenian National Measurement Institute, only 6 000 passed inspection among 25 000 scales in the republic, NGO chairman said. Yeghoyan informed that the electric scales may be adjusted to 200-300 grams less weight manually. The scales used in street trade normally weigh 300-500 grams less. The chairman said that the Christmas inflation totaled 6.6 percent. He believes inflation is higher by 20 percent if we consider mul-weighing. ''In case they weighed the products accurately, the prices in our republic would be much higher,'' he said.
