3972 FAMILIES WITHOUT HOUSES AFTER 19 YEARS OF EARTHQUAKE IN GYUMRI

The intelligentsia, public figures, businessmen and local authorities have sent an address to the president of the republic, the prime minister, the executive and legislative power, all candidates for president, foundation and international organization expressing their concern with the problems in earthquake zone. The number of families without houses only in Gyumri after the earthquake is 3972 making up 16-18 thousand people or 13-14% of Gyumri population. For 19 years they live in broken cottages the conditions of which are for a long time unbearable for the dwellers, the address says. The authors do not neglect the reconstruction works but also mention that the legislation adopted for the purpose could not solve the challenges of the town. So, the state has not fulfilled yet its responsibility in front of the families that suffered during the earthquake, they write.
