ECONOMIST: “DEPRECIATION OF DOLLAR HAS SUBJECTIVE REASONS”
Of coarse, there are objective reasons but their impact is less than what is taking place on subjective reasons, Tatul Manaseryan, an economist, told Panorama.am speaking about the sharp depreciation of dollar. In his words, it is wrong to connect the sharp depreciation of dollar only with the fluctuation of dollar in the world market. Yes, there are fluctuations in the world market but they do not have natural reflection on the Armenian economy,'' he mentioned. Asked what are the subjective reasons for the depreciation of dollar, Manaseryan said: ''In the course of recent few months and during the whole year, import is rising on a rapid speed. The import exceeds export by 2,5 times and now at the doors of winter and New Year it is profitable to import goods on cheap dollar.'' In his words, if in the world market the fluctuation are on 0.10 points then in Armenia it is in ''big jumps.'' Asked who depreciates the dollar, Manaseryan answered: ''Normally, it is formed by the exchange rate market but you must see in whose hands are the tools and how they are used. It is the Central Bank.''
