ASHOTYAN RECALLS DAMAGED CAR OF SOVIET ERA
- A political leader in Armenia must express the interests of the society, must be informed about the peculiarities of the executive. He or she must consider social interests higher that their own. A political leader must not self-declare. These were some of the considerations about a political leader that Republican deputy of the parliament Armen Ashotyan shared at the National Press Club today. He does not consider that political poles are formed during the pre-election period and considers Levon Ter-Petrosyan's team a ''virtual pole.'' Оther political figures, also present at the discussion, did not agree with Ashotyan. SIM chairman Hrant Khachatryan believes the pole around Levon Ter-Petrosyan is not acting on behalf of a political pole. Levon Ter-Petrosyan has serious reasons not to act from the name of a political pole and by doing so he is better accepted by the society, Khachatryan said. Radical and systemic changes are needed. It is not possible to build a normal statehood with todays individuals. The current and the past authorities have proved that. They have proved that they are playing on no one can compete with us principle where everything is based on application of force. We need a kind of authority, a kind of state system where the main role will be played by the people, AJM deputy chairman Alexander Butaev said. I believe a third pole will be formed meantime and the people will have a chance to divert from the opposites and will see an alternative third pole. You have already seen that the people do not go after extremist appeals and want to see what you have to say and what program you have, secretary of Dashnaksutiun block Artashes Shahbazyan said. Ashotyan recalled his damaged car of the Soviet era saying their demonstrations remind him how the driver tried to make the car work and failed. Levon Ter-Petrosyans campaign is that Soviet car where the engine does not work during demonstration. In fact, they conduct a virtual campaign. There is no engine there, Ashotyan said. Another comparison was brought by Hrant Khachatryan. He said: The strategy of the Republican party resembles fight with fist rather than the logic of deep thought.
