8 YEARS AGO PARLIAMENT WITNESSED ASSASSINATIONS
Eight years ago, on October 27, a group of terrorists who broke into the Armenian parliament, assassinated Armenian Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsyan, National Assembly Chairman Karen Demirchyan, his both deputies Yuri Bakhshyan and Ruben Miroyan, Minister on Operative Issues Leonard Petrosyan, deputies Armenak Armenakyan, Michael Kotanyan and Henrik Abrahamyan. Several ministers and deputies were also injured from gun shots. The leader of the terrorists was former reporter Nairi Hunanyan. The other participants were Hunanyans brother Karen Hunanyan, uncle Vram Galstyan, also Derenik Bejanyan, Edik Grigoryan and Ashot Knyazyan. The judicial case started against them on February 15, 2001 and ended on December 2, 2003. Six members of the terrorist act were sentenced to life sentence by Kentron and Norq Marash community first instance court. They were accused in state betrayal, terrorism and based on several other articles of the criminal code. Separated from October 27 case, the criminal case on terrorism organizers were canceled due to lack of evidence.
