KHACHKAR IN ROME DEDICATED TO GENOCIDE VICTIMS
On October 10, in the Italian city of Rome, holy annointing ceremonies took place for an eternal khachkar dedicated to victims of the Armenian Genocide. The Armenian diplomat in Italy informed about this news. The ceremony was conduced by the Armenian bishop of the German diocese, Archbishop Garegin Pekchyan. The khachkar was gifted by benefactor Artur Asatryan, who lives in Italy. Opening remarks at the ceremony were offered by Rev. Father Aren Shahinyan, who heads the Italian-Armenian flock. Rev. Shahinyan thanks the Italian government and people, underlining that The placing of this khachkar in the eternal city of Rome witnesses to the friendly relations between Italy and Armenia. Catholicos Garegin II passed his blessing and wishes to the gathering, saying especially The murder of one person is a crime, but the murder of a nation has become the subject of debate. Present at the ceremonies were assistant foreign minister Armen Bayburdyan, Armenian ambassador to Italy, Ruben Shugaryan, representatives from the Italian government, Rev. Father Hovsep Kelekyan, director of the Levonyan School, and many sons of Armenia.
