JAZZ DAYS IN ARMENIA OPENED
The opening ceremony of annual festival “Jazz Days in Armenia” was held in the National Centre of Aesthetic Education today. The contest “Jazzy colors” started today with the participation of students of Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts as well as of Collage of Fine Arts after Terlemezyan.
As the vice Ambassador of the USA in Armenia Anthony Godfreed mentioned the contest is a rare opportunity to see how artists work. “Although Jazz was born in America it lives in Armenia as well. On the whole, there is a wonderful opportunity to join to jazz music in Armenia, I am delighted with the performance of classical as well as jazz music in Armenia,” Anthony Godfreed said.
He also mentioned that the festival “Jazz Days in Armenia” is very specific for Armenia. “The US Embassy holds such festivals in other countries either yet they are never as popular as in Armenia,” he added.
Ten participants of the contest defined the color of jazz under the tunes of the young jazz-band “Impression.” As Anoush Davtyan, a student at Terlemezyan College thinks the combination of white and black dominate in jazz. Others see jazz improvisation in bright tones of the red, orange and yellow.
The best works will be chosen by the authoritative jury including the manager of the Museum of Children’s Art, members of the Artists’ Union in Armenia headed by the chairman of the union Karen Aghamyan, the US Embassy representative Kimberly G. Hargen, representatives of the management of State Academy of Fine Arts and Terlemezyan College of Fine Arts. Through secret ballot the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be chosen. Valuable presents of brushes, paints and linen will be given to the winner authors.
To note, the contest is being held by the US Embassy for the 5th time in Armenia.
