BAKU-TBILISI-KARS PROJECT BYPASSING ARMENIA UNITES ENTIRE REGION, ACCORDING TO GUL
- Turkey’s President called on Caucasus countries to join the implementation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) regional railway project. “Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project is open to all Caucasus countries,” Abdullah Gul stated in Kars at the ceremony of foundation of the Turkish section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway on 24 July. According to Gul, the project unites not only Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, but also Asian countries, ranging from China to Europe. “The project is of great economic importance to the region and to the population of the countries involved in the project,” he said. “In spite of the doubts of ‘several countries’ about expediency of BTK, a range of Asian states, including Kazakhstan, are interested in the implementation of the project. And Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev confirmed that,” said Gul. Turkish President voiced his satisfaction that along with Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia also pay a great attention to the project. “So, a plenty of projects, such as Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipe, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipe and Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, can be implemented, should the countries have political ambitions, he said. “I am confident the project will be successful, since the three countries apply very many efforts and all issues will also be solved soon. The project unites not only two Caucasus countries, but the entire Caucasus region. And that proves independence of the countries,” said Gul, Trend Azeri news agency reports.
