DISPUTABLE ISSUES WILL ALWAYS EXIST BETWEEN ARMENIA AND TURKEY

Disputable issues will remain even if Turkey agrees to establish diplomatic relations with Armenia, under the West’s pressure, according to a Russian expert. “Armenian Genocide recognition issue and Armenia’s territorial claims as well as opening of the border will remain on the agenda of the Armenian-Turkish relations for a long period of time,” Mikhail Alexandrov, head of the Caucasus department at Moscow’s Institute for Commonwealth of Independent States, said when responding to a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter’s question during a news conference in Yerevan. Ankara closed the border in 1993 as a token of solidarity with Azerbaijan in the Karabakh issue. Despite Armenia’s offer to establish relations without preconditions, Turkey urges Yerevan to recognize its borders in accord with the Moscow Treaty of 1921 and stop the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
