RA NA: PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN KARABAKH MET INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS

The Armenian parliamentary observation delegation announced preliminary conclusions on the NKR presidential elections, the RA NA press office reported. The report issued before the counting of votes and announcement of official results of the elections says, in part, “The presidential elections gained wide public support. These polls once again proved that the election institute is an essential element of democratic power formation. The authorities demonstrated political will. Violations fixed during the elections were of technical nature and cannot have any impact on the final results.” The Armenian parliamentarians pointed out to the progress fixed during the vote and issued some recommendations for the NKR leadership. The document says the July 19 vote was held in a quiet atmosphere. The appearance was high and was reported every three hours. 76,25% of those eligible to vote took part in the elections. “The presidential elections in NKR held on July 19, 2007 met the international standards of holding democratic elections and the national legislation,” the report says. The RA NA observation mission led by vice speaker Ishkhan Zakaryan included Gagik Minasyan (RPA), Armen Rustamyan (ARFD), Gagik Gevorgyan (ARFD), Artashes Avoyan (OY) and Larisa Alaverdyan (Heritage party).
