ARMENIA'S POLICE DELIBERATELY DO NOT ISSUE NEW PASSPORTS - NEWSPAPER
YEREVAN. - These days Armenia's Police Passport and Visa Department is rejecting—or at least delaying—the citizens' applications for being issued new passports, and on the grounds that there are insufficient number of new passports, Zhoghovurd daily writes.
"But the newspaper received information that the Government had instructed not to issue passports, and especially to small children, so that the parents will be unable to take them outside Armenia. It is apparent that such passports are necessary in this season in order to go on vacation outside Armenia.
In the meantime, the Government handed down a directive to do everything so that people would not relax abroad, where it is much cheaper and more convenient, but rather in Armenia. In other words, they are indirectly pushing people toward spending astronomical amounts of money at the recreation areas belonging to representatives of Armenia's [ruling] regime.
The Police press service, however, denied this information," Zhoghovurd writes.
