WHO DISLIKES ARMY

On January 28, the 20th anniversary of the army, when the television of Armenia and the entire air was filled with odes to the army, which we also witness on every May 9, May 28, September 21, January 28, a silent protest took place in Yerevan in memory of soldiers killed at peace time.The relatives of soldiers, as well as dozens of people with an active civil position, held up photos and posters and walked along the streets of Yerevan, reminding about one of the main issues of the 20-year-old army - underestimation of human life and the cannibal atmosphere.Usually, in answer to these reminders, the government and the propaganda claim that all armies have incidents and victims, so it is possible to silence this on the day of celebration and take pride in the achievements of the Armenian army.Here, we deal with a more dangerous phenomenon for the army and the state and the society - the mythology of the army. What is an achievement in army? The army is a living body which faces serious military and political issues every second. These issues never pass, instead they constantly plan the future of the army and the state. An achievement of the army cannot sustain an army because the most important achievement for the army is daily modernization of its structure, organization, armament, thinking.It is certainly good that our army has the victory in Karabakh but instead of pathetic and emotional excitement it is perhaps necessary to take into consideration that the winner of Karabakh was an absolutely other structure than the regular army that we have today. Yes, it was the basis, the embryo of today's army but it had an absolutely other structure, psychology, logic, which will never repeat again. So is the situation that used to be there. New wars will occur in absolutely different situations, with absolutely different logic, requirements and challenges, will require a different understanding of geopolitical and strategic realities, a different thinking, a different army.When the entire weight and centralization is aimed at the achievements of the army of which the main one is the victory in the war in Karabakh, the president of the army undergoes mythical, epic perceptions, endangering the daily need for the modernization of the army.Moreover, the division that those "competent" must discuss these things is artificial, and the pride in the army must be generated through memories of the victory.This is a misperception. Anyone competent should not think that the society dislikes the army or likes it less than himself. The society cannot dislike the army because the army is the society itself, its son, its children, its father. The society cannot dislike someone competent or a group of competent ones. Consequently, the competent ones should not ascribe their problems with the society to the relations of the army and society.The army is disliked by those whose sons do not serve in the army or serve de jure, standing sentry in the places of entertainment of Armenia and abroad, sometimes with the excuse of studies. In the meantime, those are mainly the sons of competent ones, namely high-ranking officials and officers. Hence, if the competent ones think about the love for the army, they must think about materializing this love in "insiders". Meanwhile, the society loves the army, and this love and care are so inherent that they do not need additional demonstration but they do cause concerns about the problems of the army, especially if they cost the lives of people. These problems will not be solved without the society if there is a genuine wish to solve them. Because, there are segments in army whose vicious activities can be defeated only with the support of the public thanks to which this defeating, which will be an inevitable confrontation of the new and the old, will take place smoothly, fast and effectively.There are a lot of armies which had really impressive victories but the states and societies did not turn their armies into "hostage" of victories but preferred to discuss daily problems and climate, shortcomings in everyday activities to ensure that the army will be able to win in future.The vivid example is the fate of the winner armies after World War II. The armies of the United States, Great Britain, even the French army are the strongest and most modern armies in the world where everything is done to ensure the life and security of every soldier even at wartime.In this context, the destiny of the Soviet army is "impressive" which was a winner but was bogged in corruption, violations of field manuals, zero value of the life of a soldier and human, zero level of modernization. However, in the U.S.S.R., everything that is now heard in independent Armenia was heard on every May 9, November 7, February 23. HAKOB BADALYAN
