24 MILLION TREACHERIES

- Mr. Hakobyan, figures of culture were on the Republican ticket for Mayor. What do you think what determined it and did the Republican Party need them? - The Republican Party and the figures of the Armenian culture have not invented the bicycle. So-called intelligentsia has always served the non-democratic regimes. Those people, who you mentioned, were not excited by the ideas of the Republican Party; they just joined the governmental pyramid. Now, they are trying to explain their step as a preoccupation to be politically useful. Even if I wanted to believe them, I could not. - Do you think none of them may bring up issues? - Many of them had more powerful platforms to bring up issues, before becoming members of the Elders' Council. For example, the Chair of the Union of Journalists or the artistic head of the theatre. In general, I cannot understand all this scandal. They have a new post let them hold it. Nothing is changed in this result. Even the genius people were mistaken and praised monsters. It was a tragedy. In this case, I do not see either the monster or the genius. - What attitude intellectuals have to have in case the home situation is tensed? Do they have to direct the public? - What we understand by saying an intellectual let me explain my ideas in this connection. There are two types of specialists, dealing with intellectual professions. The first group has a good education and a certain success. These are specialists, maestros - the intellectuals. The second group is formed by those who are also educated but consider themselves bearers of supreme ideas and wisdom. In addition, they force the public to consider them such too. These are the people, who make the illegalities of a regime become legitimate; these are people, who distract people's attention from urgent issues. Not everyone knows that during the 70 years of the Soviet Union, the members of creative unions, doctors of sciences and candidates of sciences, sent more than 24 million treacheries to the law enforcement bodies. I am repeating 24 million. Let us separate the result of the intellectual work of people from their political stances and leave apart the word intellectual. There is no intellectual on the Republican ticket for Mayor. - Do not their political activities weaken their main mission? - Who said they are engaged in politics? Those people invest their creative small capital in a more expedient work, they start using goods, and they appear in the centre of people's attention. This is normal; a man in the end is weak. - What goods is a director or an architect going to use? - And what if they are bad exhausted architects? If you do not agree to fulfill a governmental order, your theater will be no longer financed. - During interviews, they note that they would accept proposals of any political party except the one of the Armenian National Congress, because the HAK is destructive opposition. - Of course, they would, but only with one circumstance: that party needs to be in power. And why that sphere does not accept the HAK is clear. By saying HAK they mean Levon Ter-Petrosyan, they mean the independence of Armenia and the collapse of the sweet imperia. Did any of so-called intellectuals ever participated in the struggle for the Armenian independence or was opposition during Levon Ter-Petrosyan's office? None of them did. They followed all the events in silence hating those, who "were destroying" their favorite Soviet Union. - May we state that they are taking revenge now? -They are taking revenge. But from whom? From our county? Our citizens? Our future? They consider themselves intellectuals and digest March 1, when the blood of their compatriots was spread. This is the sphere of the public, which is educated by Asian norms, and a man, their dignity, their life, their freedom as a supreme value lack there. - There are intellectuals within the HAK too. - They see that something is wrong with this country, and like a normal thinking person, they worry for the future of the country. Without accepting the notion of an intellectual, I understand those people. After all, the opposition does not give material goods. - The election proved that the electoral frauds are still actual in our country. - I do not blame only the government I blame the public too. And forming an institute of free citizens is not a job of one day. - Will not the Constitutional way of struggle slow the process down? - Violence brings violence. Let it slow down the process, it is all right. The second version is more expedient to make the serve become a free citizen. After, the free citizens will form the civil society. I am sure that the HAK and the Heritage are struggling for this system of values. My friends are not striving for power. -Are they just intolerant? - If everyone were tolerant, the world would not develop. The "mad" people have always changed the world. Such "mad" people made a revolution in Armenia in 1989-90. Zaruhi Postanjyan is one of those "mad" people, who struggles for Armenia and the dignity of its citizen.
