WHAT SERGE SARGSYAN MEANT

The Iran-Armenia gas pipeline is a major move towards diversification of the energy sources of Armenia. The Armenian foreign minister Vardan Oskanyan described the gas pipeline which was opened on March 19 two days later.
Certainly, energy diversification is good, even necessary, when our energy system is owned by Russia, but what kind of diversification is this when the Armenian officials no longer hide that Russia will take up the management of the pipeline. The reporter of Lragir.am reminded Vardan Oskanyan that two weeks ago Serge Sargsyan, another Armenian minister, stated in Moscow that the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline is a joint project with Gazprom.
“Iran-Armenia gas pipeline is an Armenian and Iranian project. There is no other participation,” said Vardan Oskanyan, adding that the management of the gas pipeline will be decided in the future when it is fully ready. “It is logical that concession will be signed with Armrusgasard. It is an Armenian organization, which deals with the gas sector of Armenia, and it is natural that it should take up the management of this section,” Vardan Oskanyan says. His words make think that Vardan Oskanyan is unaware of the participation of Gazprom, or Serge Sargsyan stated something in Moscow which has not been decided yet. As to the uselessness of statements on diversification, if the gas pipeline is also given to Russia which controls all our spigots, he thinks otherwise, he has a different idea of diversification.
“Diversification is not who controls, diversification is what sources Armenia has, from which countries, how sustainable the route of the pipeline is, if it is vulnerable or not,” Vardan Oskanyan says. According to him, the gas pipeline belongs to us, nobody will take it away from Armenia, the manager will not block the pipeline and gas will flow freely. Although Vardan Oskanyan has every reason to think so, and is convinced that Russia will not block the Iranian gas. It is possible that Armenia took care of everything, and built the pipeline without a spigot.
