VAZGEN MANUKYAN: LISKA REPLACED NZHDEH?

The leader of the National Democratic Union Vazgen Manukyan shared his impressions in a news conference on March 20 headlined “The khanate of Syunik in the pre-election period”. He told about his visit to Syunik region and the incidents that happened to him. It became known that in Kapan Vazgen Manukyan was not allowed to stay at the Kapan Hotel, he could not rent a hall to hold a meeting with people. Nevertheless, the meeting took place, at the office of the Dashink Party of Samvel Babayan. In Goris he did not have problems with hotel but the owner of the hotel got phone calls from the police and the tax agency and threatened him for accommodating Vazgen Manukyan, who is a foe. He got an anonymous threat by telephone not to come back to Syunik until May 12. May 12 is the day of the election, and Vazgen Manukyan says all this is related to the election.
Vazgen Manukyan said he refers to Syunik as a khanate because the Republican governor Surik Khachatryan controls the tax service and the police and can coerce everyone. Vazgen Manukyan is worried that the “proud people of Syunik” are starting to get used to this.
The NDU, which will not run for parliament supports Samvel Babayan running for parliament from electoral district 39 of Syunik, where his opponent is Serge Sargsyan’s brother Alexander Sargsyan. Vazgen Manukyan says Serge Sargsyan’s brother is not worth to be a member of parliament. He also knows that if Serge Sargsyan’s brother loses the race, it will be a heavy blow to Serge Sargsyan. Vazgen Manukyan wants Serge Sargsyan to get this blow.
Vazgen Manukyan is not going to turn to Robert Kocharyan or Serge Sargsyan after what had happened. “They used to work in the nomenclature of the Azerbaijani Communist Party. They were social climbers. Now they are making a career here. I address Andranik Margaryan. Has Liska, a criminal and an illiterate person, replaced Nzhdeh, a moral and progressive person who saved Zangezour? Is this the ideology of Nezhdeh that the Republican Party upholds?”
