ARDARUTIUN DIED, LONG LIVE ARDARUTIUN

The mission of the Ardarutiun Alliance is over, stated the secretary of the alliance and the People’s Party of Armenia Grigor Harutiunyan. He said the alliance was unique in the political history of Armenia because it was set up and lasted till the end of the parliamentary cycle. Of course, Grigor Harutiunyan also accepts that the goal of the Ardarutiun Alliance to restore the constitutional order in Armenia has not been attained yet. Like all the other opposition figures, Grigor Harutiunyan does not have an answer to the recent frequently asked question. He only says he does not want to accuse anyone of the opposition’s failure to unite.
“Every political force finds its track on its own,” Grigor Harutiunyan says. He also thinks the thesis that the failure of the opposition to unite is the cause of the current state of the society and the political sphere is cheap propaganda of the government. “It is surprising that the government is worried about the unification of the opposition most of all. There is an explanation, we have given an explanation. The government has always wanted to have shapeless alliances in the opposition which are usually easy to control and consider different provocateurs at different times,” Grigor Harutiunyan says.
He is not surprised that the People’s Party of Armenia is accused of acting as a delayed-action mine. “We have heard such accusations since we were established. We continued notwithstanding these provocations. You know when someone in the opposition tries to accuse of cooperating with the government, they will not succeed. They have tried for many times but failed because we have always struggled for legitimate power, against this illegitimate government,” Grigor Harutiunyan says.
He says the People’s Party was ready to join the Impeachment Alliance, there were meetings with the founders. “We said we are ready to join but such alliances cannot be effective if at a definite moment the opposition forces are not included. If the three parliament opposition forces are not included in this alliance, this alliance cannot be effective,” says the secretary of the People’s Party. The People’s Party thinks free cooperation with opposition forces will continue to ensure a free, fair and legitimate election.
