15 PERCENT OF CANDIDATES ON PARTY TICKETS SHOULD BE WOMEN

Member of Parliament Hranush Hakobyan believes that the social, economic and other spheres of life in Armenia depend on how women are involved in these spheres and how they will participate in the parliamentary election. Informing that 60 percent of our voters are women, Hranush Hakobyan said normally the voters trust men who are thought to have stronger will power. There is not a place in Armenia where women leaders are prepared, the political parties should do it, stated Hranush Hakobyan and added that few women are included in the leaderships of parties. She states proudly that on her proposal it was set down in Article 100 of the Electoral Code of Armenia that 15 percent of candidates on party tickets must be women.
In raising the importance of women in politics Hranush Hakobyan emphasizes the role of the family, if we are ready to see our wife, sister, daughter in politics. In fact, we are not ready because Hranush Hakobyan says a male leader is forgiven more than a female leader. Hranush Hakobyan thinks women’s mental abilities are not inferior to men’s, the ways of thinking are different. Women in politics have mental abilities and consciousness, men in politics have mental abilities and will power. Women care for social, health, environmental and peace problems more, whereas man are more interested in business, finance, security and defense. The summary of the two is what we need, she thinks. “All the parts of the society must be represented to the National Assembly to have better laws, democracy is impossible without women. On the other hand, one cannot appear in one place or another only because she is a woman. One needs to have abilities, knowledge and experience.”
Hranush Hakobyan says not all the spheres lack women. 70-80 percent in education, culture and health are women, 3035 percent of judges and lawyers are women.
