DEMOCRATIC PARTY WILL NOT NOMINATE CANDIDATES FROM CONSTITUENCIES

The leader of the Democratic Party Aram Gaspar Sargsyan stated February 28 at the Pastark Club that their party members will not run for parliament from constituencies. Aram Sargsyan thinks it is not necessary because he thinks the majority system implies struggle against money which has no prospects. “We realize what implications the majority system has. It means competing not with persons but with the money they have, which is absurd. They can afford to spend millions, we cannot,” Aram Sargsyan says. He also says they will support the majority candidates who uphold the ideas of the Democratic Party.
The Democratic Party will spend the efforts they will have spared on the election under the proportional system. It is already clear that 50 candidates will run for parliament on the Democratic ticket. The succession has not been made clear yet. It will be made clear within the upcoming few days. “We consider who will be ready for such work. Second, there will be a political force which has real opportunities to work in the executive in the future. I can only say one thing now that at least 30 percent will be women,” says Aram Sargsyan. He thinks the number of candidates on the party ticket is realistic because they expect to get 10-15 percent votes. The leader of the Democrats says there will be a woman in the first five places.
