HOW TO DECIDE THE ODD MAN

The political parties are supposed to submit their tickets with the Central Electoral Commission ‎from February 26 to March 3. This period, which seems ordinary at first sight, is symbolic. As it was mentioned above, the deadline is March 3. Moreover, it is even very symbolic. This date can be considered as a turnaround in the history of the independence, which halved our 15 years of independence, and which marked the beginning of a new political reality which has lasted till today. On March 3, 2000 the leaders of the Republican Party, in the Unity Alliance which still existed at that time, demanded nip and tuck the Serge Sargsyan’s resignation. Aram Zaven Sargsyan and Stepan Karen Demirchyan, who were demanding his resignation, perhaps did not even doubt that Andranik Nahapet Margaryan demanded the same thing but not for the same reason. Probably Margaryan demanded that Robert Kocharyan dismiss Sargsyan to appoint him minister of defense. Kocharyan guessed what Margaryan meant, listened to him, and to reward his caring attitude for this brother-in-arms he appointed Margaryan prime minister. In other words, March 3 was the day when the present Republican Party submitted a bid with the president and the bid was accepted, and a new political situation was established.
Amazingly, the Republican Party will again submit a bid for the new political situation on March 3. And there is no doubt that it will be so because a fight over the ticket has started, and there is no certainty that the Republican ticket will be submitted with the CEC in time. And the fight over the ticket has a clear reason. The bid for power reveals the odd man. On the previous March 3 Aram Zaven Sargsyan with his team was the odd man out. Now everyone understands that it is time to decide who will be the odd man. The situation is much complicated because 7 years ago Robert Kocharyan decided who would be the odd man, whereas now he has left it up to the Republican Party to decide the odd man. If Robert Kocharyan pointed to someone to decide, at least one problem would be solved. Meanwhile, this problem is very difficult to solve. It is so complicated that the political party put this question aside and took up the problem of deciding who the odd man will be. Meanwhile, this question cannot be ever solved unless the first is solved. Even if the Republican ticket is somehow drawn up and submitted to the CEC, there is no certainty that this paper will be brought into being. There is no guarantee because the authors of this ticket cannot understand who after all decided so, and most importantly, if they are acting to this decision.
