THE MEMBER OF DASHNAKTSUTYUN MIXED UP SOMETHING
As it could be expected, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation is satisfied with Serge Sargsyan’s address. This satisfaction was voiced by Deputy Speaker Hrair Karapetyan, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, during the parliamentary briefings on October 3. He said the establishment of the new political tradition is commendable. Besides, Hrair Karapetyan noted that he is satisfied with the content of the address. According to him, no schedule of events should be expected from the address because it is a document which marks the cornerstones, and for actions there are public administration bodies. At least, this is the way how Hrair Karapetyan perceives the address. In answer to the question of reporters whether it was not important to touch upon the occurrence of March 1 which took the lives of 10 and injured hundreds, Hrair Karapetyan said he thinks March 1 was touched upon. The reporters asked to mention the part of the address which referred to March 1. Hrair Karapetyan said it was the political part of the address when the president spoke about the unification of political forces, stability. Karapetyan thinks it referred to March 1 and the activities of the radical opposition. The reporters also asked about the amnesty, reminding that the report of the CoE human rights commissioner Thomas Hammarberg held to expect a political solution of the issue of persons arrested on charges of mass disorders. Will Armenia declare amnesty, the reporters asked Hrair Karapetyan? He said Hammarberg’s report is interim and expected but there is no need to hurry to speak about political prisoners before the trials. Hrair Karapetyan also thinks that it is not right to pardon everyone. According to him, there were mass disorders, shops were robbed, ten people were killed, several tens were wounded, and it is not right to pardon everyone, which the society will not accept, let alone the families of the victims, Hrair Karapetyan stated, noting that it is wrong to pretend as if nothing has happened and pardon everyone. In answer to this the reporters reminded that he must be mixing something because none of those in prison now has caused anyone’s death. The killers are not in prison. Hrair Karapetyan was unable to give a definite answer to the reporters. He only said after the trials the accusations will be known.
