THE ALLIANCE OF THE CHURCH AND THE STATE
- Today Serge Sargsyan hosted Catholicos Garegin II, the bishops of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the secular members of the Synod. The press office of the president reports that Serge Sargsyan addressed the clergy. “I am happy to greet you at the presidential office, only several days after the ceremony of the blessing of the chrism.” According to the president, this ceremony best symbolizes the idea of our unity and collectivity, the role of the church to protect people. “The chrism is armor against what is anti-national, immoral, temptations which is so much in the modern world,” the head of state said. According to him, having no state for one thousand years, the church has always supported our people and led us into the 21st century. “We the state owe to the church to enable it to grow powerful and lead our people more steadily,” Serge Sargsyan said and noted that the state is always ready to support the church. The catholicos commended the constant attention of the state to the problems of the church. He described the attitude of the president toward the church and the dioceses during his every visit abroad as encouraging. Noting that the church supports all the writings of the head of state which are aimed at progress and development in life, Garegin II said they are visible, and they are aware of them.
