ANC DELEGATES MET WITH DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER OF POLAND

On October 1 the coordinator of the office of the Armenian National Congress Levon Zurabyan and Vladimir Karapetyan in charge of foreign relations of the Armenian National Congress met with the delegation of the deputy foreign minister of Poland Andrzej Kremer. They discussed the political situation in Armenia, the possibilities of elimination of obstacles on the way toward democracy, as well as the prospects of settlement of regional issues and conflicts. The ANC representatives drew the attention of the guests to the fact that persecution of 38 political prisoners is based solely on police testimony, which was criticized by the Council of Europe. Other evidence to violation of the CoE demands is the recent amendments to the law on television and radio by which the TV companies which are not controlled by the government have no possibility to get broadcasting license by 2011. The deputy minister presented some details of the Polish-Swedish initiative of Eastern Partnership, pointing to the focus of the initiative on human rights, democracy and civil society. The representatives of the Armenian National Congress reasserted their positive attitude toward the Polish-Swedish initiative, underlining the importance that Armenia joins it. It was noted that the European integration of Armenia should not be confined to rhetoric, and real steps should be taken to prove the commitment of the Armenian people to European values. Levon Zurabyan also talked to the state secretary on foreign relations of the foreign ministry of Norway Raymond Johansen on September 29 about the democratic processes in Armenia and the prospects of overcoming the home political crisis, the ANC office reports.
