WILL GALUST SAHAKYAN BE A MAYOR OF A VILLAGE?

On September 8 the reporters asked Member of Parliament Galust Sahakyan, the deputy leader of the Republican Party, to comment on the September 6 decision of the executive committee of the Republican Party which described Speaker Tigran Torosyan’s tenure as inexpedient, and considered Hovik Abrahamyan expedient for that post. The reporters asked Galust Sahakyan what the Republicans are going to do in case Tigran Torosyan does not resign, whether they are ready for a vote of no confidence. The Republican leader said “there is no need for suppositions, at the moment the party can account for its decisions. The decisions on ways to account for are collective decisions, and at the moment it is impossible to bring them up on my behalf. The party has its strategy, and will pursue that strategy,” Galust Sahakyan stated. In answer to the question of reporters whether the Republicans were dissatisfied with Tigran Torosyan’s activities, Galust Sahakyan said political activities are not office work. “Generally, all kinds of decisions are the result of political decisions. Moreover, the party has no negative tendency regarding Tigran Torosyan,” the deputy leader of the Republican Party stated. “And what is Hovik Abrahamyan going to do as speaker of the National Assembly that Tigran Torosyan was unable to do?” the reporters asked Galust Sahakyan. “This is not the requirement of political functions. I answered that question that in the party the political activists can do any work. The problem is that the party sets to decide the role of its political activist,” Galust Sahakyan stated. The reporters also tried to find out whether the replacement of the speaker of the National Assembly supposes a change in the role of the National Assembly. “No, change of political roles is possible but the party cannot have a change of role because it is guided by its principles, programs, terms of reference,” Galust Sahakyan said. The reporters asked, nevertheless, how they assess the work of Tigran Torosyan, whether there was a reason for dissatisfaction. “My evaluation is different, the functions, political processes in the country are different. Naturally, we have walked together in our political activities for many years, and I think it matters. In other words, being a party, political activist is a role, and distribution of roles is underway,” Galust Sahakyan says. According to him, the political party decides where the activist should work. “Today the party finds that I must be a member of parliament, tomorrow it may find that I should be the mayor of a village,” Galust Sahakyan says. In answer to the question whether what happened will not harm the reputation of the Republican Party, Galust Sahakyan said it depends on what everyone will say, and generally time will show everything. “Every family knows their laundry. Others should not delve into that laundry,” Galust Sahakyan said.
